Oral health covers every aspect of our lives but is often taken for granted. It is said that “Our mouth is a window into the health of our body” because it can show signs of nutritional deficiencies or general infection. Mouth lesions or other oral problems are visible due to the diseases of the body. Oral health is much more than having a healthy tooth.

Dental nursing is a field of dentistry in which a dental nurse supports the dentist in all aspects of patients’ dental care. A dental nurse has to help with reception work and could help any member of the dental team - dentists, clinical dental technicians/technologists, hygienists, and therapists. Main areas to be taken care are as follows: taking responsibility for the decontamination of instruments, maintaining dental operating equipment, ensuring that all relevant materials and supplies are in place, looking after patient records – including making notes when the dentist is examining a patient, working closely with the dentist, responding quickly to requests and generally keeping the surgery ready for use.

Oral hygiene means cleaning of one's mouth to keep it free from disease and other problems mainly by regular brushing and cleaning between the teeth. It is important that oral hygiene is carried out on a regular basis to enable the prevention of dental disease. The most common types of dental disease are tooth decay (cavities, dental caries) and gum diseases, including gingivitis, and periodontitis. Regular brushing consists of brushing twice a day: after breakfast and before going to bed. Cleaning between the teeth is called interdental cleaning and is as important as tooth brushing.

dental implant or a fixture can be referred as a surgical component which is placed between the bone of the jaw or skull to support a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, denture, facial prosthesis or to act as an orthodontic anchor. Modern dental implants deal with the biologic process called osseointegration. In this process, materials like titanium are used to bond to the bone. The implant fixture is first placed so that it is likely to osseointegrate, then a dental prosthetic is added.

Session on Pregnancy and Dental Health

Related: Dental Conferences | Dental Health Conferences | Dental Health Congress | Dentistry Conferences | Oral Health Meetings | Oral Hygiene Conferences | Dentistry Meetings

It is important to take care of oral and dental health during pregnancy. Common causes of dental health problems during pregnancy can include gum problems, vomiting, cravings for sugary foods and retching while brushing teeth. If there are symptoms like bleeding gums, dry mouth and morning sickness, it is suggested to consult a dentist. Gum disease triggers increased levels of biological fluids that induce labor. Pregnancy gingivitis occurs due to the increased level of hormones exaggeration and the way gums react to the irritants in plaque. However, the plaque is the major cause of gingivitis and not the hormone.

Session on Fluoride and Dental Health

Related: Dental Conferences | Dental Health Conferences | Dental Health Congress | Dentistry Conferences | Oral Hygiene Conferences | Dentistry Meetings

Fluoride plays an important role in maintaining dental health by strengthening the tooth enamel, making it more resistant to tooth decay. It is a natural mineral that can be found in many foods and in all drinking water. It reduces the amount of acid that the bacteria on the teeth produce. Due to the lack of fluoride, plaque can be formed which is a thin, sticky film of bacteria that constantly forms on teeth.

Industry Insights:

Favorable government initiatives pertaining to dental hygiene is another factor propelling the growth of the market. In the recent years, governments of many countries are initiating reforms for development of dental health of their country. For instance, in the Australian 2016-17 Budget was framed to deliver a reform through a Single National Child and Adult Public Dental Scheme and allocated nearly USD 1.29 billion (AUD 1.7 billion) towards public services for dental care. Furthermore, according to Germany’s healthcare policies, 87.5% of its total population is a member of “sick funds”- a not-for-profit organization. It provides free basic dental services accompanied with several advanced options such as orthodontics, and crowns and bridges.
